My name is Skye Lacy, I use they/them pronouns. I was introduced to Rotary through my father, who was introduced through his father. My dad is in Rotary Club of Ivanhoe, Australia. I myself have yet to settle down with one rotary club, preferring to
participate in many different events with different clubs. This means I have met many members of the Rotary family, every single one so far has been accepting and open to discussion about who I am and the LGBT+ community.

In 2018 I attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in district 9790, and it was a third eye opening experience. I met so many accepting individuals, the food was great and the content of the week was even better. There was definitely an LGBT+ presence and acceptance at RYLA that made me feel comfortable and that I was able to express who I was.

Due to my wonderful experience in 2018 I decided to become a RYLA supporter in 2019 and the experience be only got better! After talking to people on the RYLA committee a question regarding an individual’s pronouns was added to the RYLA expression of interest forum. These pronouns were then put into their name tag, which worn every day. This made me very excited as it instantly made the experience a much more welcoming time for everyone!

Over the course of the week I was able to have many educational and interesting conversations with a massive variety of people from all walks of life about pronouns and the LGBT+ community.
